2017 has been promised to be a wallet-destroying year for anyone wanting to maintain their complete set of Limited Run Games releases. The LRG model has been working quite nicely for months and, now that the worst of the growing pains are out of the way, it’s time to keep on going full steam ahead. This week saw the announcement of three games, two of which are both PS4 and Vita, all going on sale near the end of the month.
The first game is Oxenfree, the PS4-only title, with a print run of 4,500 being released either January 20 or 27, although hopefully the earlier of the two. This is because the next two come out January 27, and seeing as both games have PS4 and Vita versions it can make for a feeding frenzy at the overworked Shopify digital storefront as everyone tries to order everything, all at once. The first of the two is Aqua Kitty: Milk Mine Defender, a cute horizontal shooter, and the second is Curses N Chaos, an arcade-style single screen brawler. Both of those get a smaller run, 2,500 copies per platform, $24.99 apiece. The price for Oxenfree isn’t announced yet but seems likely to be in the $29.99 range, give or take a bit.
As for February, that’s still a work in progress. The Swindle is likely but not confirmed, and a Japanese Vita game LRG has been waiting to announce will be ready as well at a $39.99 price point. There are a few others for February not even hinted at, March should be busy as well (with another big Japanese game) although not so packed as February, and then the schedule settles down for a while. It’s going to be a pricey few months for physical game collectors, but there are some very nice additions to the library on the way.
