The 16-bit era still casts a large shadow over RPGs and Square Enix is a major part of that legacy. Project Octopath Traveler was announced for the Nintendo Switch and everything that’s been revealed about it so far is practically marinating in an old-school console RPG style. Details on exactly what you do are fuzzy at the moment but the trailer clearly shows off team-based battles using sprites that would feel right at home on the SNES. The game promises a large amount of freedom of choice, with the adventure going in the way you decide to follow it. How it all plays out is yet to be revealed, but with this much love for Square Enix’s 16-bit heritage on display it’s easy to get excited for more information when it becomes available.
