EA has announced that a new Need for Speed game will launch in fiscal year 2018.
The Need for Speed franchise has been on a long hiatus due to declining quality and sales. The last entry in the franchise, Need for Speed, launched to mediocre reviews with a lot of criticism aimed at the game’s unneeded always-online requirement. As such, EA and Ghosts Games confirmed there would be no Need for Speed in 2016. At the time, the studio said the next game would launch in 2017. Now, thanks to EA, we have some extra clarification.
During their third-quarter earnings call with investors, EA confirmed that the next Need for Speed game will be launching during fiscal year 2018, which means it could launch anytime before March 31, 2018. The delay was to give Ghost Games time to push the boundaries of action driving, and deliver the best-looking Need for Speed game ever.
Expect to hear more about the upcoming Need for Speed game at E3 2017.
