Although it may not have the dazzle of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Bomberman R is one of the most exciting Nintendo Switch launch titles for many gamers. It’s coming across as a ’90s-style launch game that favors simple, colorful gameplay and might just be the most addictive game at launch (or at least one heck of a “B game” for when you need a break from Zelda).
The latest in a line of Bomberman games, many have wondered what the R stands for in the title. Konami has answered that question via reddit:
“R is a throw back feel for the Devs. to when games could simply have a letter and allow that letter to carry many meanings. It symbolized Returns & Reborn because this game is such a homage to SNES and SB3. But it also mean Rangers, to represent the diverse and colorful group of Bomberman characters who patrol the galaxy.”
So there you have it, it’s a random letter that has multiple meanings. ’90s throwback indeed.
Super Bomberman R launches alongside the Nintendo Switch on March 3.
