Are you the type of person who feels that we need more arcade-style brawlers in gaming today? If so, Columbus-based developers Multivarious Games have you covered with No Mercy, a project of theirs that they’ve been working on for over a year now, and which has just begun its Kickstarter campaign to secure funding to help out with the game’s development. Set in a mysterious forest where an ancient power known as the Corruption has been unleashed, four heroes set out to stop this evil, even though they each have their own secret agenda.
As seen in the trailer, below, No Mercy’s colorful art style and beat’em-up action bring to mind the likes of Castle Crashers, although the developers have said there will also be a huge focus on a discoverable narrative as seen in games like The Stanley Parable and Journey, which certainly sounds like a unique combination. Notably, Multivarious Games is also working with the Able Gamers Charity to help the game achieve its goal of being accessible to those with disabilities, in addition to representing them as well through its player characters. If all goes well, the game will be released in three Acts over the course of Summer 2017 to March 2018, though if the funding goal is exceeded, the developers will be able to work on releasing it as one whole game.
No Mercy has $30,000 set as its initial crowdfunding goal, and as of the time of writing, has already raised over $12,000. You can check out more info about No Mercy over at its Kickstarter campaign page, or if you want something more hands-on, you can try out a demo of things over at itch.io. It looks like quite the gorgeous, funny, and clever brawler indeed, so here’s hoping for success.
