Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct focusing on the indie titles coming to the Nintendo Switch called the Nindies Showcase and on the tail end of the show was a little game called Wargroove. Wargroove is a turn-based strategy game with graphics similar to the 16-bit era that appears to be heavily inspired by the Advance War series. Aside from the similar look with the sprites, movement is still grid-based and the menus have the same actions and a similar aesthetic as Advance Wars, not to mention attacking brings up a split screen.
While Advance Wars is set in the modern world, Wargroove is set in a medieval fantasy with dragons and skeletal soldiers. There is also a mode where the player can create their own maps. Wargroove’s release date is still yet to be announced, but as of right now it has immense potential.
