Not long after releasing what many perceive to be the best Sniper Elite game to date in Sniper Elite 4, Rebellion Developments have today, during GDC 2017, officially announced a HD remaster of the cult 2000 AD comic-based shooter Rogue Trooper. Rogue Trooper: Redux, co-developed with TickTock Games, tells the story of Rogue, a bio-engineered GI unit immune to Nu Earth’s now-poisonous atmosphere. As the last soldier standing against the colonial Nort regime, Rogue must use the abilities of his three fallen comrades, taking the form of biochips in his equipment, to become a one-unit squad of death, destruction and more importantly, revenge.
It’s been roughly eleven years since Rogue Trooper was last in the spotlight, predating the standard that third-person, cover-based shooting quickly became and its presence as a tactical shooter helped elevate the sub-genre to significant heights long before the likes of Gears of War and co helped make the gameplay mechanics that much more popular. Though no release date has been given, Rebellion have confirmed that the game will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC & Nintendo Switch.
