Did You Know Breath of the Wild Started As an 8-Bit Game?

At GDC (Game Developers Conference) this week, a prototype of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was shown off. This prototype utilized 8-bit like graphics reminiscent of the original Legend of Zelda in a 3-D engine and demonstrated mechanics present in the finalized product. You can see Link burning trees and structures and moving cut down trees to cross bodies of water. This prototype demonstrates that Nintendo prioritizes gameplay before anything else when it came to developing Breath of the Wild. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild comes out  on March 3 for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U. You can watch the footage of the prototype below:
