Independent developer Ninja Theory has updated their progress on the PlayStation Blog that their PS4 exclusive, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has reached the Alpha stage in development.
Ninja Theory has stated the game is based in the Viking heartland and revolves around the heroine Senua’s “personal story charting the true struggles of a sufferer of psychosis,” there will be moments in the game where the player may not know if what Senua is experiencing is reality, or a psychotic episode.
According to Ninja Theory’s Dom Matthews, the studio’s “product development ninja”, this is a landmark for the game.
Matthews explains “for the first time the entire game is playable from beginning to end.”
This is great for the studio, however there is work to be done. Matthews goes into detail about motion capture, and scenes have been shot, but combat and game play need to be refined.
The team has made it clear they are now moving onto the Beta stage of development, and with the game having been in development for the past two years, and they were intending on releasing the game in 2016, but at this point, there is no set release date.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will be a PS4 exclusive.
Ninja Theory has released the newest Dev Diary for the game alongside this news, giving a glimpse into Senua’s madness:
