The Nintendo Switch Sells More than 1.5 million Units on the First Week of Launch

The number of units sold for the Nintendo Switch keep piling up: Game Industry reports that 500,000 units were sold in the US, that 360,000 units were sold in Japan, where in Europe an approximate 195,000 were purchased primarily in the UK and France. The number has probably grown, and Nintendo was aiming for just two million units.

In addition to the rampant pre-orders that built on sales for the Switch, an estimated 89 percent of Switch owners purchased The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, meaning about 1.34 million Switch owners have a copy of the game upon release.

The Switch’s line up is marginal, but there are many indie titles that will soon fill the gap, and with intentions of having the Virtual Console fully functional, Switch owners will start seeing retro titles being made available.
