Cryptic Studios and publisher Perfect World Entertainment have been working hard to keep up with the rigorous schedule of updates for the free to play title Star Trek Online. Typically, PC players see the quarterly packs of new content long before the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions receive them. Now, it could just be me, but it feels like the turnaround time is getting shorter and shorter, which is only a good thing. So it is that the studio has announced the release date, April 18, for the console version of Season 12, dubbed Reckoning.
The primary draw of the new content centers around the brand new episode, “Of Signs and Portents.” It seems that a rather aggressive race known as the Tzenkethi have been working to weaponize protomatter to create bombs that can wipe out entire planets without that whole pesky “leaving behind a habitable landscape” like the Genesis Device. Still, a genocidal weapon is a genocidal weapon, and players will need to stop them with the help of the Lukari and Klingon General Rodek. That last will be voiced by actor Tony Todd, by the way.
There is a whole host of other goodies for players included as well, including the Lukari Restoration Reputation, the new Kits and Modules Research School, a full space battlezone and two new space queues, “Gravity Kills” and “The Tzenkethi Front.” As always, this content update will come at no charge. If anyone isn’t sure if they’re interested in giving the game a try, feel free to check out our review of the console edition. We don’t mind.
