The Witcher Franchise Surpasses 25 Million Copies Sold

CD Projekt Red has revealed that The Witcher franchise has passed a major sales milestone.

The Witcher franchise, which is comprised of three released games, has done extremely well worldwide. Plucked from obscurity, the franchise has become a worldwide phenomenon. In their Fiscal Year 2016 report, CD Projekt Red revealed how many Witcher games have been sold, and it’s a lot.

According to the company, 25 million games in The Witcher franchise have been sold worldwide. This encompasses The Witcher, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. In addition, the company also reported that, in the one-and-a-half years The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been out, revenue from sales of the game have topped 1 billion PLN, which is roughly $254 million USD.

The Witcher franchise, known for it’s high quality and immersive storytelling, has catapulted CD Projekt Red into the spotlight. The independent studio has no plans for more The Witcher games, but is planning on releasing the side-project Gwent: The Witcher Card Game  on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Their next project, Cyberpunk 2077, doesn’t have a release date yet, but some evidence points to a 2019 release.
