Square Enix Crushes Hopes for Kingdom Hearts III Releasing in 2017

We can now say for certain that Kingdom Hearts III won’t see a release in 2017.

There was always the slimmest of chances that Square Enix could have shocked the world at E3 2017. They could have shown a trailer for Kingdom Hearts III, and that end surprise everyone with a holiday 2017 release. Those slim chances have been crushed during the latest Square Enix Holding Meeting.

During the presentation, Square Enix laid out their plans for Fiscal Year 2018, which runs April 1, 2017-March 31, 2018. The company intends to release Dragon Quest XI, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, and a third additional title during the fiscal year. The long-awaited Kingdom Hearts III, which was announced back in 2013, is not among the title titles that will release in 2017. In fact, there’s also the chance it may not even release in 2018. Final Fantasy VII Remake and Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming Avengers game fall into the same category.

The wait for Kingdom Hearts III has been long and tedious. Since it’s official announcement at E3 2013, Square Enix has been slow to release new information and footage. We can only hope we’ll get to see more of Kingdom Hearts III at E3 2017. For now, we at least have Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix to keep us busy.
