Vivendi Plans Hostile Takeover of Ubisoft This Year

In what has been a multiyear, ongoing series of stock purchases, mass media conglomerate Vivendi has been inching closer to what this year seems to be a full on hostile takeover of of games publisher Ubisoft.

A story from Reuters shows that Vivendi, the former owners of Activision-Blizzard, planning to move in and take financial control of Ubisoft through a series of targeted buyouts to become the majority stakeholder in the company.

“Vivendi is moving to the second phase, everything will take place this year,” a sources told Reuters in reference to Ubisoft.

“The logical thing would be to buy Ubisoft,” a second source told Reuters.

This report is the first time Vivendi employees have seemingly talked about the apparent takeover which has been going on since 2014.

What this means for the future of Ubisoft and it’s many IPs is unclear but right now it seems certain that there will be a major battle about this in the coming months.
