Alan Wake to be Removed From Xbox Store, Steam, Retail Channels

Alan Wake, it’s DLC, and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare are set to be removed from the Xbox Store, Steam, and retailers due to expiring licenses.

May 15 will be your last chance to get Alan Wake, it’s DLC, and the spinoff, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare. That’s because after May 15, everything Alan Wake will be officially removed from all distribution channels whether it be physical or digital (except for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, which will still be available at retail). This is all due to music licenses for Alan Wake expiring, and Remedy has been unable to get them renewed yet.

To send Alan Wake off in style, Remedy is throwing a ‘Sunset Sale.’ Everything Alan Wake will be 90% off on Steam starting May 13 through May 15.

This is disappointing news, but Alan Wake may return. Remedy took to their forums to say that they are looking into relicensing the music for Alan Wake, but have no timeframe at the moment. If successful, the game would be able to be put up for sale again. The company has already confirmed they have renegotiated for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, which is why that game will not disappear from retail store shelves. So, there’s always hope that the original game will return at some point in the future.
