Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has always been a professional candy ass-whooper whether in the wrestling ring or on the big screen. However, his next role could result in him receiving the beat downs as he stars in a film adaptation of Rampage.
The classic arcade game pits giant monsters against one another in a bid to destroy as much of a city as possible. Players would eat, smash, pummel and kick various objects in order to progress to the next level. Rampage hit arcades back in 1986 then ported to various home consoles over the years. It has even had successful sequels and spin-offs released with the most recent coming to the Wii just ten years ago.
Johnson stars in Rampage as primatologist, Davis Okoye, an expert on primates. While he may be a scientist, Okoye can certainly handle himself in a fight with military personnel. Naomie Harris stars as well as a genetic engineer who will help Okoye figure out what is going on with these beasts. Malin Åkerman plays the role of the film’s antagonist who injects a gorilla, alligator and wolf with a rapid growth serum causing them to bulk up into the monsters seen in the video game.
While there has been no reveal of the creatures it is clear by the story’s plot that it will differ from the game. Johnson showed off just a couple of photos from the set on his Instagram which can be seen below. Rampage was announced to receive the film treatment back in 2011 but only started filming just last month and is scheduled for release in April 2018.
