With Devolver Digital gearing up for traditional lot and their first press conference at E3 (as part of a Twitch show, but still), it’s rather unsurprising that they would preparing some new games to show off at the event. So enter The Swords of Ditto, an action RPG that UK-based developers onebitbeyond have been working on since 2015. And to answer your first question, no, it isn’t a game about weaponry owned by shape-shifting blob monsters, appropriate as that may be for today. Instead, it’s a charming top-down adventure that could be an even bigger hit.
Taking place on the Island of Ditto, you play as a legendary hero attempting to fight against the evil forces of Mormo. As seen a bit in the reveal trailer below, though, the legend you craft will inspire others in the next playthrough, and affect the land in various ways. Banish Mormo, and everything is sunshine, rainbows, and prosperity. Fail, and it’s gloom, cloud, and more monsters. You may even find monuments and loot from your previous legends along the way. It may seem like simple stuff, but the trailer also shows a dazzling, cartoonish art style, an eclectic cast of characters, and a nifty sense of humor to help accompany what appears to be some rock-solid gameplay when it comes to adventuring.
The Swords of Ditto will be out in early 2018 for PC and PS4, and the full debut of the gameplay will take place live on Twitch Monday, June 12 at 5:00 PM PST, so set your calendars for that, and stay tuned to Hardcore Gamer for any potential impressions from Devolver’s E3 offerings next week.
