Epic Games is known to take their time. This is a well established fact. Still, considering that Fortnite was announced way back in 2011, one could be forgiven for thinking that the developer decided to quietly leave it behind. Turns out that this wasn’t the case, as Fortnite will be releasing to PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in Early Access on July 25.
The multiplayer action game casts players as a team, working together to build a giant fortress to better defend against hordes of monsters, taking what breathing room that can be gained to hunt for loot and craft items to become more powerful. It is promised that no two games will ever play out the same way.
“Bringing Fortnite to life has been a true labor of love by a talented and dedicated team over many years,” says Darren Sugg, Creative Director on Fortnite. “We’re excited to share the experience and start playing along with more gamers in Early Access this summer.”
Now, this early release isn’t a free to play one, and will only be able to people who purchase the Founder’s Pack. In addition to being able to play the game, this pack also includes heroes, loot, weapons, and in game boosts. Anyone who knows that they want to get in on this might want to consider pre-ordering the Founder’s pack, as people who do will get access to game earlier, July 21, as well as an exclusive Storm Master Weapon Pack.
Finally, for people who like having physical copies of their games, Epic will be teaming up with Gearbox to produce and distribute boxed copies of the title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
