That New Vampyr Art Looks Awfully Familiar to TV’s Hannibal

If there’s one thing I know about in life, it’s Hannibal. Not Hannibal Buress, not that ill-fated Ridley Scott Hannibal movie, but Bryan Fuller’s television series that miraculously managed to be on NBC for three seasons before being cancelled. Although on the surface it was a network TV show cashing in on a beloved movie franchise, it turned out to be quite possible the best show on TV that challenged what could be possible with the format, network or not. Because of that, imagery from the show is constantly on my mind, so whenever something remotely similar pops up I get excited. That’s why when I opened an e-mail today announcing the new Vampyr trailer, I thought it was Hannibal news.

You see, the new key art (possibly box art?) for Vampyr looked familiar. Very familiar. The promotional art (and Blu-ray box art) for season three of Hannibal features a scruffy Doctor Lecter in front of a grey-cast Victorian city, wounds on his face, his head cocked to the side with a menacing look on his face as he wipes away blood from his mouth. The promotional art for Vampyr features a scruffy Doctor Reid in front of a grey-cast Victorian city, wounds on his face, his head cocked to the side with a menacing look on his face as he wipes away blood from his mouth.

Okay, to be fair, Doctor Reid has his head cocked to the left and Doctor Lecter to the right. And, uh, well that’s the only difference…

It’s unclear whether or not this was a purposeful homage to one of the great television shows of our time, but DontNod has made no reference to Hannibal so…
