After getting a chance to take the Switch version of the anime based beat ’em up/visual novel Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star for a spin, I found myself thinking that it might actually be the best version of a pretty darn good game based on the care that was going into the port combined with the versatility of the platform. Then publisher XSEED decided to prove me wrong today with the announcement of a PC version. Obviously, the quality of the transfer will need to be seen, but if previous work is any indication, it seems safe to say that bringing the title to the most versatile platform of all could result in the ultimate edition.
Set to release on Steam on July 25, the same day as the Switch version, the game will carry a price of $49.99. That is, unless people buy it at launch. Early adopters will be privy to a 10% discount on the base game as well as 20% off of the DLC, which comes in the form of optional costumes. With a lengthy story penned by series creator Kinoko Nasu, the game picks up after the events of Fate/Extra, serving as a direct sequel to the sub-series. Featuring tons of returning characters from across all of the Fate stories, it’s a great game for fans of the anime and manga. People who enjoy the Koei Tecmo’s Musou series would also do well to check this out, as the action is quite similar.
