The new Deathmatch update is live now for Overwatch players, which includes two new game modes and new map to play them on.
Both modes, Team Deathmatch and Free-For-All, are based on kill/death ratios rather than team play, more in line with a Call of Duty play style. They will feature a new scoreboard at the end of each match that shows off everyone’s stats to stress this. Team Deathmatch is a 6v6 mode where players fight until one team reaches 30 kills. Notably, Mercy’s resurrections will take kills away from the opposing team. Free-For-All is 1v7 and has players fighting to be the first to 20 kills.
A few of the current maps will be modified and downsized for the new Deathmatch modes, and a new map, called Chateau Guillard, is fitted specifically for Free-For-All.
Last week, Blizzard announced another new map called Junkertown, set in a Mad Max-style Australia, and home of Junkrat and Roadhog. A new animated short was also released last week, featuring Mei and her time at Echo Base Antarctica. Watch the “Rise and Shine” short here.
In a Developer Update on YouTube last Thursday, game director Jeff Kaplan gave details about the changes they’d be making to the healer, Mercy. Be sure to check out all the changes they made to her here.
