Whether you’ve read it — be it out of interest for the premise or have simply had to study it in school more likely — or not, there’s a high chance you’ll have heard of Animal Farm, the iconically-grim yet insightful novel by renowned English author George Orwell, at some point in time. While the story has received a animated adaptation in the past, it’s not surprising to state that the realm of video games hasn’t quite been linked to Orwell’s tale of animal uprising and the corruptive nature of absolute power.
Well not anymore, as it’s been announced today by a team of UK-based developers that a Tycoon-styled video game adaptation of Animal Farm is currently in the works. The game will follow the events of the original novel — starting just before the initial uprising by animal-kind at Manor Farm — as the player is tasked with maintaining the farm whilst also interacting with many of the farm’s inhabitants in an episodic-like fashion. Though we have no name to the studio currently developing the project (or any screenshots for that matter), we do know that the group contains individuals who’ve worked on notable AAA titles like Alien: Isolation, Mafia 3 and The Witcher 3, as well as smaller indie titles like Surgeon Simulator & Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture.
We’ll update you as soon as we learn more of how this latest video game adaptation is shaping up. The game is currently planned for PC with console iterations expected to follow thereafter.
