Maybe not the most clear-cut Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Stories isn’t totally about hunting and killing monsters. Instead, the player takes on the role of a Rider who actually befriends monsters. That said, the Rider continues to do things that will resemble a Monster Hunter game — explore different places, battle monsters, but also steal eggs. Monster Hunter fans should be aware that the game’s battle system is turn-based, along with a rock-paper-scissors type of mechanic for attacks. Just as well, players also only have the choice of a Great Sword, Sword and Shield, a Hammer, and a Hunting Horn. It’s a different breed of game, but it does retain an semblance of Monster Hunter for those who might want it more.
