Atari Shares New Details about the Ataribox

The Ataribox has been a bit of an enigma since Atari first announced it. Now we’re finally getting some of the first details about this newest console from a classic gaming company.

The Ataribox is not simply a NES/SNES Classic in an Atari shell, it seems. Atari’s goal is to make it a living room PC with access to streaming content, games and the like. While that may have been exciting in the past, it’s not a massive selling point when modern consoles already offer similar functionality.

Unlike most consoles, it’s also expected to run on a modified Linux distribution and offer up a large back catalog of Atari titles. The expectation is to release Ataribox in Spring 2018 for $249-$299, but that’s all dependent on a successful Indiegogo campaign.
