Atlus Have A Strange Way of Promoting Strange Journey Redux

The 3DS remake of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, in the form of Strange Journey Redux, comes out in less than a fortnight over in Japan and Atlus have released a new trailer showcasing more of the game’s pre-rendered cinematics and story. But there’s one thing that grabbed many viewer’s attention that also features in the trailer. And safe to say, even by Atlus’ standards, it’s quite an odd but interesting left-field addition.

Around half-way through, the trailer — as if out of nowhere — transports us into what looks to be a 2D side-scroller of sorts featuring the character Jack Frost, one of the well-known creatures within the Shin Megami Tensei series as well as Atlus’ official mascot, alongside Jack O’Lantern as they appear to battle their way through a Metroidvania-styled World, complete with varied abilities and moves. There’s even some presence of a supposed UI and overworld map as if this were a fully fleshed-out spin-off game in its own right.

Who knows, maybe this is a hint as to the series exploring more spin-off ideas, or perhaps it’s just a sign of Atlus allowing a bit more creative freedom in their marketing. Check it out below and you be the judge. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux will release in the West in Q1 of next year.
