One of the best fusions of the 2D and anime fighter genres will be making its PS4 debut early next year. Developer French Bread’s Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late[st] is the definitive version of the PS3 exclusive Under Night In-Birth. When the original came out, it was lauded for its successful balancing of traditional 2D fighting mechanics and the spectacle typical of anime fighters. EXE Late[st] builds on its predecessor, offering a wealth of new content and features including:
- Four new playable characters: Phonon, Mika, Enkidu and Wagner
- Four new areas: Cafeteria, Children’s Playground, Momiji Alley and the Cathedral of the Far East
- New modes: Tutorial, Mission, and Chronicle
- Re-balanced gameplay: all characters possess new abilities and new gameplay elements have been added. They’ve even added a new “Veil Off” system to give players new combo options.
Delving into the new modes a bit more, Mission mode offers players the chance to hone their skills in a series of dedicated combo challenges. Chronicle mode takes the place of the original’s Arcade mode and is where the game’s story content can be found. Tutorial mode replaces Training mode and adds even more in-depth training options for each character.
Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late[st] will be released in the EU physically for the PS4 and digitally for the PS3 and PS Vita on February 9, 2018. There is no official North American release date yet.
