The longstanding, influential Pokémon gaming franchise has officially sold more than 300 million units worldwide, The Pokémon Company has confirmed.
According to The Pokémon Company, the two recently released installments in the core Pokémon handheld titles — Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon — allowed “the franchise reach this remarkable milestone.”
Pokémon, which was created by Satoshi Tajiri, marked its gaming debut in 1996 with the release of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green for the Nintendo Game Boy.
Over the past two decades, 76 Pokémon titles have been released for Nintendo platforms, both console and handheld, and for mobile devices.
Currently, a new main series Pokémon title is in development for the Nintendo Switch.
