Take-Two Interactive Plans to Go 100% Digital, Doesn’t View Loot Boxes as Gambling

Speaking at the Credit Suisse 21st Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference today, Take-Two Interactive President Karl Slatoff made some interesting comments that are sure to rile the feathers of a gamer or two. On whether or gaming software will become all digital, Slatoff stated”I think over the long-term, it will be 100% [digital], I just can’t predict whether that’s five years, 10 years, or 20 years.”

Slatoff believes that the digital transition is happening quicker than expected do to the positive influence of Xbox Live and PSN. While acknowledging that physical retail is still the majority of their business, he thinks that they’ll eventually be phased out and it’s out of his control.

Finally, on the subject of loot boxes and microtransactions in the wake of the Star Wars Battlefront II backlash, Slatoff stated that Take-Two stands with the ESA’s statement and doesn’t view them as gambling.
