A psychological horror title inspired by the acclaimed Saw film has made its debut on Steam.
Developed by AIREM and published by IQ Publishing, Play With Me has players taking control of investigative reporter Robert Hawk, who has disappeared with his wife, Sara, under “mysterious circumstances.”
It’s here where Hawk encounters the ‘Illusion,’ a serial killer that he had been reporting on for quite some time and was close to uncovering his or her real identity.
IQ Publishing says that Play With Me has “many unique gameplay solutions and original ideas implemented in the game.”
Players must use their surroundings and take advantage of the real-world items in Play With Me, from blowing into the microphone to extinguish candle flames to making hand gestures to light a match.
Meanwhile, using a mirror or covering the screen with part of your hand or a piece of paper will help the player solve the many puzzles scattered across Play With Me’s story.
Play With Me has a ‘Mental State System’ mechanic, which allows players to monitor Hawk’s sanity in the story. Players must take “advantage” of different activities, whether it’s writing a diary, reading messages or playing mobile games, to “keep you sane.”
According to AIREM, Play With Me features random elements and, as a result, means that puzzles, items’ location and dialogue encounters will be different each time. Play With Me also includes a survival mode, as well as choice-based decisions and secondary quests that provide multiple endings to unlock.
Play With Me is priced at $9.99 (€9.99/£7.19) on Steam, with IQ Publishing confirming a 15 percent launch discount on the horror title.
