Chrono Trigger Now Available on Steam

The SNES era of gaming has aged surprisingly well over the last two decades. During this era, we got some of the best JRPGs ever created, such as Final Fantasy VI, Earthbound, Star Ocean and of course Chrono Trigger. The latter has been ported to a handful of systems over the years, such as PlayStation and Nintendo DS, but now those with PCs can play the classic.

In Square Enix’s ever growing quest to re-release their entire catalogue on PC, the Japanese publisher has announced today that the beloved RPG is now available on Steam. For better or for worse, Chrono Trigger for PC features slightly altered visuals and a reorchestrated soundtrack under the supervision of Yasunori Mitsuda. There will be a new autosave function, updated controls for both keyboard & mouse and controller, the the two additional dungeons, “Dimensional Vortex” and “Lost Sanctum” that were originally found in the Nintendo DS and mobile versions.

There’s even the implementation of Steamworks, meaning this comes with achievements, trading cards and cloud support. All of this for the affordable price of $14.99.

System requirements are, as you’d expect, pretty light:

  • OS: Windows 7/8/8.1/10 (32bit/64bit)
  • Processor: Intel Core i3 2.3GHz
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: INTEL HD Graphics 530
  • Storage: 2 GB available space
