Atari has been an iconic brand for gaming for 40 years, and the company announced today that it will unveil the Atari VCS soon. The VCS will be showcased at the Game Developers Conference and will seemingly be the long-rumored “Atari Box”. The VCS itself will support a modern-style controller and a retro-style joystick. Prototypes of this hardware will be playable at GDC. The company didn’t announce any games for the device – but with prototypes being available soon, it would seem like we’ll get at least some kind of game announcement fairly soon as GDC runs from March 21-22. We’ll keep an eye on the developments for the hardware, and look forward to seeing just what the return of the Atari branding to a home console means for gaming going forward.
