Santa Monica’s Cory Barlog Reveals God of War Goes Gold

Santa Monica Studio’s highly anticipated God of War has officially gone gold ahead of its release next month.

God of War director Cory Barlog revealed the news on his Twitter account, posting images of the Santa Monica development team and also the master Blu-ray copy holding the completed version of the title.

“God of War is gold, baby!” he tweeted. “Thank you to every wonderful human who worked so hard to make this happen. Neither word nor emoji can express the love I have for you all. Next stop, April 20th!!!”

Shuhei Yoshida, the president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, congratulated Barlog on Santa Monica’s milestone, as well as Sony Interactive Entertainment America president and CEO Shawn Layden praising the studio’s work on God of War.

“Cory and his crew are creators possessing rare talent and skill, vision and fortitude,” he tweeted. “I try to stay out of their way and clear boulders from the path. Congrats everyone for reaching this epic milestone. Wanna play!”

Barlog announced that God of War had entered development back at PlayStation Experience in 2014. God of War officially debuted at Sony’s 2016 E3 press conference.

It’s been confirmed that God of War will not have a season pass, while Barlog has revealed that the latest installment in the series will be much longer than its predecessors.

God of War is set after the events of God of War III and series protagonist Kratos returns for the latest adventure along with his son, Atreus.

God of War is scheduled for a worldwide release on April 20 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
