Atari has taken over the RollerCoaster Tycoon series and is constantly trying to innovate the long-running franchise. In the past they have brought all the PC goodness into a scaled-down version with a couple of mobile titles. But with a few advancements in technology, there are a couple of surprises in store for fans of RollerCoaster Tycoon. Two new games are in development; one allows for fun anywhere you go and the other puts you right into the coaster seat!
In collaboration with Nvizzio Creations, Atari is bringing RollerCoaster Tycoon to the Nintendo Switch. It takes the best of mobile platforms and classic gameplay to create a hybrid experience that seems to fit for the Switch. There are three modes of play to enjoy. Classic allows for all the thrills of rides and park management. Scenarios has specific goals and challenges to face. Sandbox is all about customizing and getting truly creative. You can find hundreds of items and pieces to incorporate into the amusement park. Terraforming the landscape offers immersive environments for unique locations. Ride cam features allows for even more entertainment based on real rides and attractions. Being on the Switch lets you use the JoyCon or touchpad to build. Lots of features are brought to life so you given greater accessibility than ever before. It brings the best of the mobile and PC games together which appeals to hardcore and casual players. It feels comfortable and of course being on the Switch makes it infinitely better since you get to experience playing anywhere. RollerCoaster Tycoon Switch is scheduled for release in September.
Then, we hop over to uncharted territories for the series. RollerCoaster Tycoon Joyride offers players a fully immersive coaster ride in virtual reality. Whether you wish to create your own unique experience or try out pre-made attractions, you get to enjoy them like you are actually at the park! Not only is there a terrific display of graphics and realistic physics, there’s even more to do than just sit. In this game you are on a mission to shoot down targets while on a moving coaster. It is just like many actual rides which gives added entertainment to the experience. Power-ups offer different abilities on your ride. Achieving high scores and finishing challenges will unlock new equipment and features to incorporate. Hit the mark and you could be at the top of the leaderboards. You will even get to share your creations online. Currently, RollerCoaster Tycoon Joyride is only coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. A specific date has not been set, but a window of Spring 2018 is all we know. Joyride really does give longtime fans a new way to experience all the thrills of a theme park.
Thanks to new ways of play, RollerCoaster Tycoon is looking to have a bright future. Constantly finding ways to reinvent a series is a challenge, but it seems Atari has found a niche with these upcoming titles. There is endless fun to be had in both RollerCoaster Tycoon Switch and RollerCoaster Tycoon Joyride. Come up with all sorts of epic, thrilling rides!
