Kirby Star Allies is Latest Switch Title to Surpass A Million Copies Sold

You often know what you’re going to get from a Kirby game with the 2.5D platformer very rarely deviating from its tried-and-tested formula that debuted in 1992 with Kirby’s Dream Land. And it seems to be a formula that a fair few number of Switch owners are more than happy to experience, with the news today that Kirby Star Allies has made it a dozen releases on the platform to reach a million copies sold. Star Allies currently sits at 1.26 million copies sold since its release last month — already beating out the Switch port of Pokken Tournament, which itself has so far sold 1.16 million copies and released last September.

Kirby Star Allies follows the likes of fellow first-party or otherwise exclusive offers like Splatoon 2 (6.02 million), ARMS (1.85 million), 1-2-Switch (1.34 million) and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (1.31 million) to have modest, even surprising levels of commercial appeal during the early periods of the Nintendo Switch’s life-cycle.
