Cory Barlog has Ideas for Future God of War Games

Cory Barlog, director of the recently released God of War, has confirmed he has some ideas for future entries in the franchise.

God of War won’t be the last entry in the long-running franchise. The recently released game brought everyone’s favorite Spartan into the world of Norse mythology, and there are still lots of stories to tell.

Appearing on Kotaku’s Splitscreen podcast, Barlog was asked about how many more games have been mapped out for the franchise. He replied with ‘five games.’ However, Barlog later took to Twitter to clarify that the ‘five games’ remark was merely speculation, but that he still has ideas for future games. For reference, the Greek mythology era spanned six mainline titles (God of War, God of War II, God of War III, God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, and God of War: Ascension).

In addition to his comments on the future of the franchise, Barlog commented on what he’d like to improve most between games, development time. It took five years to develop God of War, which was necessary due to the major changes made when rebuilding the franchise for a new generation. However, going into the sequel, Barlog would like to streamline development for a quicker release.

God of War is available now on PS4.
