Ahead of Stage 4 of the Overwatch League, Dallas Fuel has named Aaron “Aero” Atkins as their newest head coach.
Atkins comes most recently from Fusion University where he helped guide that team to an undefeated Overwatch Contenders Season 1 Grand Finals victory over Toronto Esports. He’s also coached Overwatch teams for Team SoloMid and Immortals.
“We have a lot of respect for the success Aaron has achieved as a coach in competitive Overwatch. His work this year with Fusion University speaks for itself, putting together an undefeated run with players from across the globe who are playing together for the first time. And when we won Overwatch Contenders in 2017 as Team Envy, I remember being impressed by how focused and prepared Aaron had the FNRGFE team we faced in the playoffs. We’re excited to bring his mentality, track record of winning, and the cerebral way in which he approaches the game to the Dallas Fuel,” said Mike Rufail, owner of the Dallas Fuel.
Earlier in Stage 3, the Dallas Fuel made some changes. This season has been the exact opposite of what we’re used to with this organization and what everyone expected. As such players and coaches have been on the hot seat with pressure mounting to turn the season around.
Unable to do that the team released former head coach, Kyle “KyKy” Souder, and DPS, Kim “Rascal” Dong-jun. In the interim after his release, Emanuel “Peak” Uzoni was the head coach and the team was still having issues.
Overwatch League is back for Stage 4 today starting at 6 p.m. CDT and the Dallas Fuel will be taking on the Shanghai Dragons around 10 p.m. CDT.
