NPD Group: God of War, PS4 Deliver Sony a Decisive Victory in April

God of War and PS4 were the top-selling software and hardware for April 2018.

Sony Interactive Entertainment can rest happy knowing that their platform and latest game have delivered them a stunning victory for the month of April. The NPD Group released their findings for April 2018, revealing that God of War was the top-selling piece of software for the month and PS4 the best-selling hardware.

Overall, April was an excellent month for the industry with both hardware and software up compared to April 2017. Hardware brought in $225 million, up 15% from $195 million. Meanwhile, software raked in $359 million, up 13% from $317 million. In total, the industry made $823 million in April 2018 compared to $699 million in April 2017.

God of War crushed it in the software department. Not only was it the best-selling game of April, it also broke Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ decade old record for the best debut for any PlayStation exclusive. The game, alongside the continuing strong performance of MLB 18: The Show, helped PS4 break another record. PS4 software sales set an all-time record high in April for any platform. The previous holder, Xbox 360, set the previous record in April 2018.

PS4 was the best-selling console for the month of April, and continues to be the best-selling platform of the year. God of War helped boost PS4 Pro sales with the PS4 Pro 1TB Limited Edition God of War bundle being the best-selling hardware item in dollar sales.
