With Nier: Automata coming to Xbox One, fans have become curious as to whether or not Platinum Game’s drama featuring robots and androids will eventually make its way to the Switch one day. During the “Square-Enix Presents” stream, the question was briefly addressed by Nier: Automata’s producer: Yosuke Saito, its designer: Takahisa Taura and director Yoko Taro. Basically, they’re open to the possibility, but there are currently no plans for a Switch port. The full version of what was said is as follows:
Yoko Taro: Well, um, when are we getting the Switch version Saito-san?
Yosuke Saito: Well, it’s not all on me to decide because PlatinumGames do take painstaking time to develop for each console.
Takahisa Taura: Well, I don’t think it’s a good idea to ask me about something as big as this.
Yoko Taro: I want a Switch version, Taura-san! Give it to me!
Takahisa Taura: Well, I’d like to have one too if it’s about what we want.
Yosuke Saito: Well, Taura-kun’s Twitter account is shown on the screen here and if everyone asks him for it, then there may be a possibility that it would become a reality. But even if it does, it might be about two years from now again. See we keep our jobs alive by releasing a little by little.
Takahisa Taura: Yes, we try to stretch it out as much as possible.
Yoko Taro: And this Twitter account is for asking for new girlfriends too right?
Takahisa Taura: Well, yes, but please contact Saito-san about Switch and not me.
Pulling off a Switch port of Nier: Automata would be quite the feat, but seemingly not impossible if any of the developer’s comments can be taken seriously. Hopefully the game sells well enough on the Xbox One to justify the effort a Switch port would require.
Nier: Automata is currently available on the PS4 and will release for the Xbox One on June 26. For those unfamiliar with the game, take a moment to check out our review and see why a Switch port would be so exciting.
