Sega Releases Sonic Mania Adventures-Behind the Scenes

As a life-long Sonic fan, Sonic Mania was truly a love letter to the golden era of the iconic Blue Blur. With silky smooth frame rates and amazing throwback moments to the original games, Sonic Mania updated an old-school classic for a new generation. Before entering any of the re-purposed stages, however, or attempting to gather all the chaos emeralds (I had to summon my childhood self to do so), the most stand-out element was the opening cut-scene for the game. Using an art style similar to the original Sonic the Hedgehog animated series, the opening scene leaves players with a good old Saturday-Morning-Cartoons feeling. The opener created such an amazing impression among fans, Sega decided to bring back the animation team for a shot at a mini series: Sonic Mania Adventures.

Taking place after the events of Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces, Adventures gives Sonic’s animated shenanigans new life. To commemorate the project, Sega has now released a “Behind the Scenes” video so that fans can meet the creative team behind the key art. Within the video, we meet director, Tyson Hesse, as he explains his creative process for Sonic Mania Adventures. Hesse truly is dedicated to his craft, and to the franchise, as he explains his desire for an authentic Sonic experience. His desire to work with Team Sonic shows his attention to detail and passion for the project. More than anything, getting a chance to look at sketches and the whole creative process gives players a new appreciation for the franchise. With Sonic Mania being one of the highest rated Sonic games in the past decade, hopefully Sega can continue employing such passionate creators to continue doing the Sonic name the justice it deserves. Sonic Mania and Sonic Mania Plus are now available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
