In the end, only a short recap of today’s matchup will be needed. The London Spitfire were already only one game away from taking the Grand Finals prize home and they did it today with little resistance.
Either way, the first map of the day was Junkertown. Both teams used normal comps, with Philly deciding to run Boombox on the Bastion for the full pirate ship comp, but then switching over to Roadhog for the remainder. It looked evenly matched on Junkertown, with Philly winning a fight, and then London would win one, and then Philly, then London and so on. It wasn’t until the end of the Fusion’s run that we saw the cracks. In the end, they were unable to make it all the way, and London were, giving round one a score of 3-2.
Next up was Lijiang Tower, which every caster and desk member said was definitely in Philadelphia’s favor. They may have cursed it, as London quickly and aggressively took two points to secure their map two win.
This meant that we were already in for match point, with the Spitfire in a position to essentially sweep the Fusion. King’s Row saw some great plays from the Fusion, and Carpe on the Doomfist was incredible to see, but in the end, London was able to counter everything Philadelphia threw at them and that was that.
The London Spitfire would become the Overwatch League’s Inaugural Season Champions, and take home that amazing Reinhardt inspired trophy. There was also a Grand Finals MVP award to give out, which went to Profit.
The last event of the season will be the All-Star Weekend, which will have the top players from the Pacific and Atlantic teams going head to head. Those games will take place on Saturday, August 25 at 7 pm EST and on Sunday, August 26 at 2 pm EST.
