Sony Interactive Entertainment today revealed that worldwide shipments of PS4 have surpassed another milestone.
Sony has shipped 82.2 million PS4 units since the platform launched in 2013. The company revealed the impressive figures within its Q1 FY 2018 report, which revealed that 3.2 million consoles were shipped during the last quarter. These new numbers put the PS4 within striking distance of the PS3. Sony sold about 83 million PS3 consoles during it’s lifetime.
Despite the impressive sales, hardware is down year-over-year. With so many consoles sold, it is only natural that sales begin to slow down. Sony currently expects to sell about sixteen million PS4 consoles by the end of the fiscal year.
Software sales, on the hand, are doing splendidly. God of War and some third-party titles managed to significantly exceed expectations, catapulting sales up 36% compared to last year. Sony currently expects strong reception to future titles based on positive feedback from E3.
