THQ Nordic today announced that they have snapped up the long dormant Timesplitters IP.
Timesplitters was once one a beloved shooter franchise developed by Free Radical Design. Unfortunately, the series did not continue into the seventh-generation of consoles. While the series has many fans, the future of the franchise looked bleak, until today.
THQ Nordic, through their fully owned subsidiary Koch Media, acquired the rights to the Timesplitters IP. They also managed to nab the rights to Second Sight. No word yet on what the publisher intends to do with the IP, but hopefully it leads to a new game.
THQ Nordic has quickly become a major player in the games industry. The publisher acquired numerous THQ properties during the latter’s bankruptcy. Known as Nordic Games back then, they were able to acquire the likes of Darksiders, de Blob, and Red Faction. Back in 2016, the announced they acquired the THQ name and rebranded as THQ Nordic. In February, they revealed they had purchased Koch Media, the owners of publisher Deep Silver.
Funnily enough, original Timesplitters developer Free Radical is currently a Deep Silver studio known as Dambuster Studios. It’ll be interesting to see if THQ Nordic hands the IP back to them.
