Mario Kart 8 Deluxe added Nintendo Labo support back in June, but it was limited to an analogue for bike handles. However, that’s all changed with the arrival of the Nintendo Labo Vehicle Kit. Kit owners can now use it like they would a specialized steering wheel and pedal controller. With this, the steering wheel dreams of the Nintendo Wiimote have finally come true.
This control scheme uses the same over-the-shoulder camera introduced with the Labo bike controls, and it appears to allow for all the tricks of the Mario Kart trade. It even uses the steering wheel button to launch items. For those who’ve always wanted to play Mario Kart with an actual steering wheel and pedal, the time may have finally come.
The Nintendo Labo Vehicle Kit will be available starting on September 14.
