Leading up to PAX West this weekend, we were expecting a few unannounced games from DotEmu. The publisher known for helping to remaster and resurrect classic gaming franchises had already unveiled Windjammers 2 earlier, but they still had one more ace up their sleeve. However, it seems like no one was prepared for what that ace actually was. Today, Streets of Rage 4 was unveiled to the world, and classic Sega and beat-’em-up fans everywhere rejoiced.
Developed by Guard Crush Games and Lizardcube, the latter being the team behind last year’s last lavish remake of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, the first trailer below showcases the same gorgeous hand-drawn style that will be used for this sequel. We also get to see our first glimpses of gameplay alongside Axel and Blaze, as well as what appears to be a mysterious new villain. The road to Streets of Rage 4 has been a long and rocky one, dating back to the Saturn and Dreamcast days, and while no release window or platforms have been announced yet, the end of that road appears to be a rewarding one indeed. As usual, stay tuned to Hardcore Gamer for more info on this game as it develops.
