R-Type Dimensions — a remaster of the first two iterations in Japanese developer Irem’s cult shmup series, R-Type — will be making its way to both PC (via Steam) and Nintendo Switch later this year, it’s been announced today. While the remastered versions of both the original R-Type and R-Type II feature 3D graphics and an updated soundtrack to match, R-Type Dimensions will also allow you to revert back to the original incarnations in real-time, as well as play with another person be it co-operatively or competitively.
The two-game pack originally released as a digital-only download on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2008. R-Type Dimensions is the latest blast-from-the-past, so far as shmup’s go, to hit the Switch following on from the likes of fellow developer Treasure’s beloved Ikaruga also being ported to Nintendo this year. No release date has thus far been given as to when the title will release on either platform.
