Mike Sherlock, the chief operating officer for Square Enix, has passed away.
Square Enix made the announcement today, saying that it is “deeply saddened” by the news.
According to the publisher, the executive team will assume control of Mr. Sherlock’s responsibilities, which will “ensure the continuity of its strategic direction and operations.”
Mr. Sherlock took on his position as COO of Square Enix America in July 2015, along with holding on to his co-duties for Square Enix Europe.
He first worked in the European division in 2005 and served as the senior vice president of marketing.
Before his time with Square Enix, he had worked as the president of international publishing for Acclaim Entertainment and the executive vice president of sales and marketing for Sega Europe.
“It is with tremendous sorrow that we announce the passing of our great friend and colleague, Mike Sherlock,” says Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix Europe and America.
“Mike was a principled and charismatic leader who led by example. He was extremely proud of the progress and success we have shared over the years.
“The entire Square Enix family mourns this tragic loss, and our deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones.”
Sad to hear of the passing of Mike Sherlock a wonderful warm man who gave me a chance at Sega 18 odd years ago.
