It’s been two weeks since the surprise announcement that the Williams pinball tables were landing on Pinball FX3, and in that time there have been a few updates tweaking and adjusting the physics but not a lot more in the way of information. The beta let players take Fish Tales out for a spin and get limited-time play on Junkyard, The Getaway II, and Medieval Madness, and the physics felt surprisingly real when compared to the normal Pinball FX style. It’s a great teaser for what’s to come, free to anyone who wants to try, and as of today there’s both a release date and pricing structure available. Fish Tales is 100% free to all, while Williams Pinball Volume One comprised of the other three tables is $9.99, releasing on October 9. The game will be available on just about everything under the sun, including PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and even Mac. That last one gets a slightly different structure due to being for Pinball FX2, so they’re $2.99 apiece instead of a single $9.99 bundle.
The beta got a fairly major update as well today with a number of new features that had yet to be announced for the game. In addition to Classic Single Player, which features the tables almost exactly as you’d find them out in the real world (minus a little overzealous editing to make them family-friendly), there’s the standard Zen Pinball Single Player complete with unlockable rewards that enhance scoring potential plus Wizard powers that are basically cheats to give you an edge. On top of that, every table gets a visual makeover that can be turned on or off with a button press, adding extra toys to the field both stationary and animated. The dragon on Medieval Madness is particularly nice, but subtle touches like the water effect on the lower bumpers on Fish Tales give life to what had been a static image. They really make the tables pop and the purist in me decided pretty quickly that, yes, this is more than acceptable.
Check out the announcement trailer below to see it all in action, or just check out the beta and play it in person. Either is good.
