PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds could be heading to PS4 real soon based on evidence out of South Korea.
Ratings boards across the world are well-known for leaking games long before official announcements. While it’s best to take any potential leaks with a grain of salt, a game rated by a rating board is typically legitimate and presages an official announcement. Due to this, it wouldn’t be surprising for a PUBG for PS4 announcement sometime in the near future.
Twitter user Nibel noticed that a very peculiar game popped up on the Korean Ratings Board. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is well known in South Korea, but not on PlayStation 4. The rating suggests that a PS4 version of the popular battle royale game is on its way following a year of timed exclusivity on Xbox One.
PlayerUnknown’s Battleground launched a year ago on PC as an early access title. The game garnered widespread praise and became a commercial hit. Last December, the game launched on Xbox One as a timed-exclusive. Since then, PUBG has found itself in a tight spot thanks to additional competition (Fortnite, Blackout, etc.) and image issues. PUBG Corp. has sued several competitors, including chief rival Fortnite. While they did eventually back off, it wasn’t good for the game’s image.
The question now is whether or not it’s too late to bring the game to PS4. While PS4 owners were upset last year over the timed-exclusivity agreement, other games have crept up to satisfy the PS4 community. Fortnite performs well on the platform despite cross-play functionality. Also, Call of Duty: Blackout received high amounts of praise during it’s beta, and EA and DICE intend to launch a battle royale mode with Battlefield V.
We’ll let you know should PlayStation or PUBG Corp. make any announcements.
