Marvel’s Spider-Man Becomes Fastest-Selling First-Party PlayStation Game

Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man has become the fastest-selling first-party PlayStation title to date, Sony Interactive Entertainment today confirmed.

The open-world action-adventure title sold over three million copies in its first three days, with Sony taking to Twitter to congratulate Insomniac for smashing the record.

“Marvel’s Spider-Man is setting records!” Sony tweeted. “It’s now the fastest-selling first-party PlayStation title, selling 3.3m+ in its first three days.

“Thanks to all the fans, and congrats to Insomniac Games and Marvel Games.”

The studio welcomed the news on Twitter and tweeted: “Thank you to all of you who have supported Spider-Man!”

It means that Spider-Man has eclipsed the successful debut that Santa Monica Studio made with the critically acclaimed God of War in April.

Earlier this month, Hardcore Gamer reported that Spider-Man had become the fastest-selling title in the UK this year.

First revealed at Sony’s E3 press conference in 2016, Spider-Man has been both a commercial and critical success. Ahead of its release, Amazon had sold out physical copies of the title in the U.S.

The City That Never Sleeps, which will be the DLC for the title, was announced last month, with the first piece of content, called The Heist, launching in October.

Insomniac’s latest title was released worldwide on September 7.

Hardcore Gamer’s review praised the title and pointed to the fact that “Insomniac Games perfectly captures Peter Parker’s comical bravado, all the while establishing a world ripe for its own unique expansion. In the end, Marvel’s Spider-Man is the most realized Spider-Man game yet.”
