Those looking to get a quick fix of Souls-inspired boss battles and nothing more, developer Dark Star may just have the answer for you just around the corner. It’s been confirmed today that the boss rush title, Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption — a game we got to try out earlier in the year and were pleasantly surprised with its style as much its substance — will release on October 18 for PS4, Xbox One & Switch. A PC/Steam version will follow shortly thereafter. For those not in the know, Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption is heavily inspired by From Software’s beloved series of Action RPG’s, but here gameplay is stripped back to its very boss battles of which there are seven in total, based on the seven deadly sins.
The catch however, is that while the player is free to tackle these boss fights in any order, triumphing in any encounter will require you instead to figuratively level down as a result. This means deciding whether to take a hit on your health for example, even one’s attack power or even sacrificing the use of particular equipment, thus permanently locking you out from using it for the remainder of the game thereafter. An intriguing spin on the usual conventions, but we’ll have to see how well it blends with the core combat when the game releases next month. Check out the latest trailer below.
